The Dental Council is reviewing the qualifications recognised by the Council for registration as an additional qualification under Section 31 of the Dentists Act, 1985. This review is aimed at devising proposals to make the list of additional qualifications attached to a dentist’s registration understandable and meaningful from a public perspective.
It is probable that this exercise will significantly reduce the current list of additional qualifications and therefore the Council has decided that it would not be appropriate to register any new additional qualifications pending the completion of this exercise.
While this review is underway the Council will continue to register qualifications for graduates from programmes where it has previously registered these qualifications against a registrant’s name. However applicants should note that this may mean that the some qualifications added to the register may be removed subsequently.
